Gozo Island, Malta

Gozo, the Island of Calypso forms part of the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean. The island is an ideal holiday for those wishing to get away from it all and ideal for walks along the coastline. It's also a good base to explore the Island of Malta and you can also travel to Sicily by ferry and of course Italy can be reached via Malta.

Gozo is a former British colony and English is the second language so you will have no problems with communication and they drive on the left. The capital of the island is Victoria (also known as Rabat) which is an attractive town with a modern cinema and all films are in English.

Gozo is very easy to get to with hourly ferry trips from Malta that take kess than 30 minutes and costing around 5 euros return per person and appro 15 euros for a car and driver.

There are several sandy beaches on the island and the water is very clean. Popular sandy beaches include San Blas, Marsalforn, Hondoq Ir Rummien and Ramla Bay and there are also the dramatic coastlines of Dahlet Qorrot and Dwerja

Prices seem to be lower overall than other European countries such as Spain, Portugal and France. The typical cost of tea and coffee in local cafes for example is a lot lower.
