The Malaga Feria (Feria
de Málaga) is the largest annual celebration
on the Costa del Sol. People travel from around
the world to attend the event and it's a very
important trading period for hotels, bars and
restaurants. There is a traditional competition
and rivalry with the Feria in Seville with both
cities keen to put on the best events, lights,
attendance and organisation.The event dates
back to the 15th century and has its roots in
the Catholic church.
The main events take place during the day in
the old part of the city near the Cathedral
( La Catedral de la Encarnación de Málaga
) Marques de Larios, Alameda Principal and Paseo
del Parque. In the evening after around 10pm
visitors and locals start to head for the purpose
built fairground. Here, the fair goes on all
night, with many arriving after midnight. The
fairground is in a purpose built area on the
outskirts of town and is absolutely enormous.
Hundreds of purpose built function rooms run
through a central boulevard providing varying
types of food and entertainment. On both sides
are the fairground entertainments and rides.
Buses are provided to ferry people from the
city centre and other areas |
