Common features in Competa are the traditional
pueblo style facades and the details of the balconies,
grilles, pot plants and tiles stand out against
the white painted walls. Just 4 kilometers further
along the road from Competa is the picture postcard
village of Canilas de Albaida which is well worth
a walk around.
The Sierra Almijara, with peaks as high as 2,068
metres. A stunningly beautiful natural park where
you can go for walks to encounter mountain goats,
eagles and very rich vegetation. In addition,
the sandy beaches and coastal villages of Axarquia
are also close by. Competa has a good selection
of restaurants & tapas bars. It also has a
bakery, supermarkets, banks and quality craft
shops.
The land surrounding Competa and down to the coast
is filled with vineyards, olive, almond and lemon
groves, tropical fruits such as avocado, mango
and kiwi, all ideally suited to this sub tropical
climate. Competa is famous for its Moscatel wine
and you can visit the wine museaum or one of the
bodegas and taste the wine yourself.
