Marbella is popular holiday
destination with an up-market image due to its
designer stores and close proximity to
Puerto
Banus. Indeed, many photographs of Marbella
show luxury yachts with exotic cars parked next
to them and this is actually Puerto Banus located
a few kilometers further up the highway. However,
Marbella does have a smaller marina of its own
with cafes and restaurants located on it. Immediately
behind the marina is the promenade stretching
across the length of beach. Marbella is also the
location of the popular La Canada shopping centre
which is probably the biggest and arguably the
best on the coast.
The old part of the town,
located behind the main high street is lovely
to visit with interesting shops, delightful cafes
and restaurants and magnificent buildings. The
main focal point here is the Plaza de los Naranjos.
The beautiful residential area of La
Virginia is located a short distance away.
Marbella is approximately
35 miles from Malaga airport and is well served
by the local highway, the A7 or the toll motorway,
the E-15. Marbella has a permanent population
of 100,000 but this figure increases dramatically
during the summer months. Marbella is said to
have its own microclimate, with sunny weather
most of the year and mild winter conditions from
November to March.
