Situated just 12km east of Malaga, near on
route to Velez Malaga, Torre del Mar and Nerja,
Rincon de la Victoria makes a convenient base
for those who work in the city but prefer sea
breezes and beaches, and the relative tranquility
of an overgrown fishing village. It is also
a popular place for the Spanish to spend the
summer months and many families have their second
home here. The main areas of the municipality
are Rincon de la Victoria, La Cala del Moral
and Benagalbon with its coastal area Torre de
Benagalbon.
There are no major brand stores in the town
centre but a large shopping centre the Centro
Comercial Rincon de la Victoria is located a
few kilometers on the outskirts adjacent to
the motorway
The winter population of 26,600 inhabitants
almost triples during the summer period. Rincon
de la Victoria's greatest asset is the Cueva
del Tesoro, the only marine cave in Europe and
its lively urban sea front and beach. From the
westernmost cliff top, the view sweeps down
the length of the sandy beach and promenade.
There is a contemporary art exhibition at Casa
Fuerte Bezmiliana which in the 17th century
was a military fortress. Continuing the art
theme, the Sala Mare Nostrum, a former rail
station has been converted into an art centre.
