Velez Malaga is the regional
centre of La Axarquia, Velez Malaga is the centre
of an agricultural region known, which produce
the muscatel grapes from which the famous Malaga
wines are made. The march of residential tourism
and coastal development in Torre del Mar since
the 1960's has reduced the areas dependency on
this sector.
The oldest part of the town, known as Arrabal
de San Sebastian, is a picturesque area of narrow
streets. You will also come across attractive
mansions built during the 16th and 17th centuries |

The town is worth a day trip
if you're staying near the area and there are
some interesting buildings, a cultural heritage
centre and a large park within walking distance
of each other. Spectacular views of the area can
be seen by walking up the pathways from Arrabal
de San Sebastian to the church
Shops are a mixture of town centre, the out-of-town
El Ingenio Commercial Center and popular Thursday
