Three hundred yards from
the villa is an Equestrian Center, originally
set up in association with Captain Mark Phillips,
and now the base for a number of topflight polo
ponies and international dressage horses. It also
provides lessons for beginner's adult and child
alike and local hacks for more experienced riders.
The team at the Equestrian Center can ensure a
memorable experience of enjoying Andalucia on
horseback.
The clubs El Bolero restaurant is San Roque's
flagship serving international cuisine and modern
interpretations of classic Spanish cooking. Kamakura
is one of Spain's best Japanese restaurants offering
sushi, sashimi, tempura and teppanyaki dishes.
In addition to these restaurants there is the
bar serving drinks and food throughout
the day.
The heart of the San Roque Club is golf; golfers
can choose between 2 courses.
1. The demanding par 72 of The Old Course, the
original course designed by Dave Thomas, that
winds through cork oak forests with superb mountain
views. For many years it has played host to memorable
moments for the young pretenders and old campaigners
alike. The course's tight, sloping fairways are
lined by mature cork oak trees - demanding straight,
accurate driving. Strategic bunker placement and
deceptive water hazards threaten all but the most
precise approach shots.
The greens are fast, contoured and true, rewarding
well-judged putts and punishing anything else.
Acknowledged for it's challenge throughout Europe,
The Old Course provides a test for the very highest
standard of golfer.
2. The New Course, created by legendary American
course designer Perry Dye. The idea was to create
a new course that is a challenge for scratch and
low handicap golfers but that is also possible
for higher handicap players to enjoy. To that
end each hole has five different tee positions
and fairways that are wider than those on The
Old Course. Nevertheless, these fairways are designed
to reward canny tactics and skilful drive placement.
Water hazards guard four of the greens, also defended
by more than a hundred strategic bunkers, which
lie in wait for wayward or ambitious drivers.
